Dr. Denise Groothuizen

Dr. Denise was born in Seattle but grew up in San Diego and returned to the Seattle area when she was 17. Denise worked for Holland America Line Westours in the Seattle office, and onboard the msy Wind Star, ms Noordam, and the ss Rotterdam in the Caribbean, Alaska and Europe before changing directions and returning to university to follow her dream of studying health and nutrition. This led her to Bastyr University and acquiring a Bachelor of Health Science and Masters of Acupuncture and East Asian Medicine. Dr. Denise has been practicing at integrated clinics in the Seattle area specializing in supportive cancer care, acute trauma, injuries, and chronic pain for the last 23 years and she takes pride in her pain free needling technique. Dr. Denise has also volunteered with Acupuncturists Without Borders, the Free Teen Clinic on Capital Hill and the Wounded Warrior Program. Most recently she received her Doctorate in Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine from Pacific College of Health and Science in San Diego. She lives in the theater district of downtown Tacoma with her dog Heffy and together they have a goal of retiring to the Baja Peninsula, adopting 5 more dogs, and teaching them to swim in the Sea of Cortez.
